Learn and gain an RYA certificate showing that you have all the basic skills required to be safe and confident on the water.

Personal Watercraft (PWC’s) or Jet Skis, as they are commonly known, are versatile, fun and exhilarating but you must know the limitations of your craft.

With some practical handling skills on the water and some theory work on dry land we will teach you to be a safe and competent rider able to make the right decisions at speed including collision regulations, navigation, weather and tides.

The course includes use of a Jet Ski which is based in Torquay Marina. Fuel, certificate and handbooks are all included.

Low numbers to ensure you get plenty of time on the helm.

Want to bring your own personal watercraft? – great; a discounted course is available.

Special Offer

Half Price RYA VHF course with every PWC course booked.

Use code “VHF offer” upon booking.

It is a legal requirement to have this certification before operating a marine VHF set so a great opportunity to get qualified and to be safe.

Course syllabus includes but is not limited to:

  • Launching and Recovery
  • Safety equipment onboard
  • Departure checks and basic care
  • Weather and tides
  • Charts, navigation and understanding your local area

How long is the licence valid?

Your licence will be registered with the RYA so there is always a record, there is no revalidation required.

Can I hire a personal watercraft using the licence?

Yes, but in Europe you are best getting the International Certificate of Competence (ICC), this is just a paperwork exercise with your proficiency licence and an additional £52 fee.  We can assist you through the process.  Bring an extra passport photo with you.

Can I use my own personal watercraft on the course?

Yes, please get in touch with us – we will discount the course if you bring your own.

Why is it a good idea to do the course?

Increasingly the certificate is required for launching in UK harbours.  Some insurance companies are also offering discounts when you have done the course.

Whats the minimum age?

The minimum age is 12.  12-16 must be accompanied by an adult on the course.

  • Passport Photo for the certificate
  • Lunch money or packed lunch, there are plenty of local places to get a bite
  • Swimming costume and wetsuit/ dry suit if you have one
  • Sunglasses with retainers can be useful against spray
  • Sun block on those sunny days
  • Buoyancy aid if bringing your own ski

We can offer a 1 to 1 course for your PWC so its done at your pace.
