This essential one day First Aid course is for anyone that gets afloat

As the skipper of a vessel you have a responsibility to be able to care for your crew. The one day RYA First Aid course is run by experienced RYA instructors with a good appreciation of medical care afloat and develops the confidence and ability to perform basic first aid when on the water – an essential course for everyone.

The syllabus is based on the recommendations of the Health and Safety Executive and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency. The certificate fulfils the requirements of the MCA Code of Practice for the skippers of small commercial vessels up to category 2 and for all RYA practical instructors.

The course is a mixture of theoretical and practical, covering all the usual first aid subjects but from a boating perspective.

You will cover:

Bone breaks and splinting
Bleeding and bandaging
Burns
Hypothermia
Drowning
Resuscitation
Category C First Aid Kits
Using a defibrillator

And much more.

What’s the minimum age?

The guide minimum age is 12 years old. We have based this on the physical aspects of administering CPR. 12-16 year olds must be accompanied by an adult.

How long is the licence valid?

Your licence will be registered with the RYA and is valid for 3 years.

How many will be on the course?

We like to limit our courses to a maximum of 8 to ensure we have plenty of time to cover everything and to allow you lots of hands on time for the practical elements of the course.

Do I need any prior experience?

No prior experience is needed at all.

Lunch money or packed lunch, there are plenty of local places to get a bite
Notepad and pen

Although this is aimed at personnel going afloat – this will equally suit anyone wanting to get First Aid qualified.

  DOLPHINS AND SEALS !! An unforgettable Trip - We had the most amazing evening safari boat trip with Torquay Water Sports, and honestly, it was incredible from start to finish!

The whole experience was fantastic, from the... read more lovely team when we arrived to being out on the water taking in the absolutely beautiful views across Torquay Bay. But the highlight and something I still can’t quite believe happened  was seeing dolphins! 🐬✨ I have never seen dolphins before, so to experience that during our trip was genuinely unforgettable and made the evening even more special.

A huge thank you to our skipper, Rose, and our crew mate, Daisy. These two were absolutely brilliant. They were incredibly professional and made us feel completely safe and looked after, but at the same time they were so warm, welcoming, bubbly and genuinely lovely.

Rose and Daisy were such a great duo they bounced off each other so naturally and brought such a fun atmosphere to the trip. We spent most of the evening belly laughing with them, and they somehow managed to make the whole experience feel like we were out enjoying the evening with friends, while still being incredibly professional and knowledgeable.

And then they spotted the dolphins! 🐬 The fact that these two were able to make such an incredible moment happen for us is something we’ll remember for a very long time. And even had an enough time to see Neil the seal !!

I honestly feel so grateful that we booked this trip. It was one of the absolute highlights of our holiday in Devon, and I couldn’t recommend Torquay Water Sports enough. If you’re visiting Torquay, do this trip! The views, the experience, the team and, of course, the dolphins made it absolutely unforgettable.
