Torbay and the Jurassic Coast is the perfect place to enjoy the delights of open water swimming and we are very excited to be able to offer you the opportunity to swim under the supervision of our open water swimming instructor.

Let us use our experience and resources to give you every opportunity to enjoy the wonders of open water swimming.

Susie Phillips, our chief instructor; is a club swimmer turned feral, loving life without lanes and the sheer joy of wild swimming – whether it is the sea, lakes, rivers or any other body of water.  Inspired after a SwimTrek in Croatia, she has been swimming regularly all around Hampshire, Berkshire and the New Forest and competing in events like Hever Castle Swim series, Bournemouth Pier to Pier and Dart 10K to name a few.

As a qualified instructor:

Susie has coached one to one for many years and firmly believes that everyone has an open water swimmer within them.  Susie is keen to encourage the very new and the old hands to experience the best that Torbay can offer and help you improve and succeed at open water swimming.  So if you are a triathlete trying to improve your times and confidence or a newbie willing to take the plunge, book a session and see what you can achieve.

Introduction to Open water swimming 2.5 hr session

These sessions are aimed at swimmers new to open water swimming or those who want to brush up on their skills and confidence. We cater for all levels … whether you want to just dip your toe in the water and try Open Water for the first time, look to do wild swims, or whether you have a particular swim or triathlon event to aim for.

Includes:

  • Wetsuit choice, putting on the wetsuit, quick removal & choosing the right goggles.
  • Acclimatization, entering the water and safety
  • Looking at the dreaded mass swim starts, dealing with anxiety, breathing techniques
  • Skills such as how to start, picking the right line sighting, navigation & turning around buoys
  • Wild swimming – how to keep safe and been seen
  • 1 hour swim to London Bridge

 

Open water coaching one to one 1hr

Get help with your open water technique whether it is just for fitness or you have an event coming up. The sessions are tailored to your need.

It is an ideal session for swimmers wanting to gain confidence in open water swims or for regular open water swimmers wanting some open water practice

 

Swim safari half day

We will take you to some of the wild spots in the area in our high-speed boat. Experience caves, coves and beaches, wildlife, and sea birds – we might even see some dolphins! Hot drinks and cake available on board.

  • Swimmers must be over 12 and be confident to swim 200m
  • Locations dependent on weather conditions and tides

What is the minimum age?

A guide is age 12 but the only real requirement is that they are able to swim over 200 meters

What if the weather is bad?

Every effort will be made to honour bookings. In the case of exceptionally severe weather or other adverse conditions we may at our absolute discretion have to re-arrange the details of a planned event.  The safety of passengers is our prime concern, and decisions on safety remain at all times the prerogative of the Skipper of the boat.

What to bring?

Please bring all your swimming equipment with you including wetsuit, floats, rash vests and ear plugs.  Don’t have these? then please call to discuss.

  • Swim costume and/ or wetsuit
  • Towel
  • Change of clothes
